Heads Or Tails

IT’S not everyone who has the courage or confidence to decide their career path on a flip of a coin.
However, that’s just what a 16-year-old Richard Joyce did on leaving school and being faced with a decision of pursuing a plumbing apprenticeship or working for his uncle at the then Lander Alarms in Lincoln Road.
“It was a case of heads or tails, simple as that,” said Richard, who went on to complete a three-year City & Guilds course in electrical installations after chance chose his next move.
Richard said: “I did a few self-employed jobs for national companies based locally, really became interested in all aspects of security, and never looked back.”
Secura-Cam was established in 1996, and became a limited company in 2008. Richard’s current co-director, former work colleague Mark Watson, has helped to move the company forward following the retirement of Richard’s original business partner to France.
Mark also has many years’ experience in the security industry, having started his own career as a security engineer – completing a three-year apprenticeship for a company in St Neots, following a successful City & Guilds course.
A corporate rebranding has given the company a new, fresh look and placed Secura-Cam firmly on the map both locally and further afield.
“It is a far cry from the days when I used to park my old van at Thorpe Road whilst carrying out work for a customer, and having to keep nipping out to check the oil leak wasn’t causing too much of a mess on the road,” laughed Richard.
